Siilinjärvi Climate Programme
The Siilinjärvi Municipal Council approved the municipality’s updated climate and resource programme on 15 June 2026. The programme aims to achieve a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and to promote resource efficiency within the municipality.
The programme brings together the municipality’s climate and resource-wise objectives and measures, and sets the direction for Siilinjärvi’s climate work and its management in the coming years. A key objective of the programme is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions within the municipality’s area by 70 % by 2035 compared with 1990 levels. At the same time, the programme sets new targets for example for reducing consumption-based emissions and the ecological footprint.
The programme includes new themes such as adapting to and preparing for climate change, as well as promoting biodiversity. The impacts of climate change are set to intensify, and the role of adaptation is becoming increasingly important. Biodiversity plays a key role in human well-being.
The themes of the programme are:
- Transport and urban structure
- Energy production and consumption
- Circular economy and material efficiency
- Food production and consumption
- Forests and biodiversity
- Water consumption and natural waters
- Climate leadership, communication and participation
- Climate change adaption and preparedness
Each theme is associated with a number of objectives, and each objective with a set of measures.
