Integration
Integration is governed by the Act on the Promotion of Integration https://www.finlex.fi/fi/laki/alkup/2023/20230681.
The Ministry of Employment and the Economy is responsible for integration issues at the Finnish level, and at the local level, municipalities have the general and coordinating responsibility for developing the integration of immigrants and for planning and monitoring it. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment’s website kotouttaminen.fi provides a wealth of information for integration actors.
When you move to Finland
You can apply to the Labour Market Centre for services to help you integrate and find employment. You can request an initial assessment from Työmarkkinator. This will identify your situation and your needs for different services. The integration plan is drawn up together with the authority of the Labour Market Office. It will agree on the services you need to support your integration and employment. The integration plan may include agreements on participation in integration training, Finnish or Swedish language training, other training, work-life skills training or work experience.
Integration training is an important part of your integration. In integration training, you can learn Finnish or Swedish, and if necessary, you can also receive literacy lessons. Integration education provides you with the skills you need to enter working life and further education. To get unemployment benefit, you must take part in an initial assessment and attend integration training. The obligation to participate in training applies to both labour market training and the voluntary training supported by unemployment benefit. Integration training also provides social, cultural and other skills to help you integrate into Finland. For more information on integration courses, please contact the Labour Market Centre. You can contact the Työmarkkinator online, by telephone or by appointment. Siilinjärvi is part of the Kuopio employment area, so you can get services from TyöNavigaatori in Siilinjärvi as well as in Kuopio.
