Guidance for the migrant

If you are moving to Siilinjärvi and do not yet have a personal identity code or wish to obtain a municipality of residence in Finland, make an appointment at the Finnish Register Office for Digital and Population Information via the electronic appointment booking service or by calling 0295 536 320 during telephone hours . EU citizens who have registered their right of residence and their family members can, under certain conditions, also obtain a municipality of residence without a personal visit, for more information see the article by the Finnish Digi and Population Information Office.

If you already have a personal identity code and want to register a temporary change of address or already have a municipality of residence in Finland, you can register your move by post or online at www.posti.fi/muuttoilmoitus or by filling in a form available from the post office or the Finnish National Register of Civil Status.

If you move to Finland from an EU/EEA country, you can stay and work freely for up to three months. After that, you must register your residence permit. If you are a citizen of an EU country, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland, you do not need a residence permit to enter Finland. If you are moving from a third country, you will need a residence permit. More information on residence permits in different languages can be found at www.migri.fi in Finnish, Swedish and English.
