Recruitment services for employers
Recruitment services can help you find and recruit an employee. As an employer, you can get advice and help from the employment services to fill a vacancy, as well as information about jobseekers in the sector and the labour market situation. Employers may be eligible for financial support if the person they are recruiting is unemployed or if their disability or illness requires other support. Recruitment services for employers include publishing job vacancies, providing information on job vacancies, searching for and presenting job candidates and organising recruitment events. Free recruitment services are available to companies, other organisations and individuals acting as employers.
Wage subsidies
A wage subsidy is a subsidy to promote the employment of an unemployed jobseeker, which the employment authority can grant to an employer to cover wage costs. The purpose of paid employment is to promote the unemployed jobseeker’s integration into the open labour market and to improve his/her professional skills. The wage subsidy also promotes access to employment and participation in working life for people with reduced capacity for work and for long-term unemployed persons aged 60 and over. It is granted and paid to the employer, but is always based on the service needs of the unemployed jobseeker.
Wage subsidies may be granted for
- for an indefinite full-time contract
- for a fixed-term, full-time contract
- for apprenticeships
- part-time employment, if the grantor considers the aid to be appropriate and the aid contributes to the jobseeker’s chances of finding employment.
The labour market authority will assess whether the support is the most appropriate means of promoting the unemployed jobseeker’s employment and will decide on the duration and amount of each period of support. Information about the wage subsidy is recorded in the jobseeker’s employment plan or wage subsidy card.
The length of the pay period depends, for example, on the duration of the unemployment of the person being hired and the impact of the reduced capacity to work on job performance. In most cases, the aid is granted for five or ten months, depending on the duration of the unemployment period preceding the wage subsidy. The maximum duration of the benefit is the duration of the employment relationship. Aid may be granted for a maximum of 24 months at a time for the recruitment of a long-term unemployed person aged 60 or over.
As an employer, you undertake to pay the subsidised worker at least the salary provided for in the collective agreement applicable to the employment relationship, or the normal and reasonable salary if there is no applicable collective agreement. No wage subsidy will be granted if the wage of the person receiving the subsidy is determined solely by the performance of the work.
The amount of the wage subsidy is usually 50% of the wage costs of the person hired with the subsidy. The amount of aid for hiring a disabled person is 70% of the wage costs. For an association, foundation or registered religious community, the aid may be up to 100% of the wage costs. The aid is paid at a rate of between EUR 1260 and EUR 2020 per month, depending on the basis on which the aid is granted. The wage costs covered by the aid are the withholdable wages paid to the worker for the time worked or the work carried out.
Work trial
A work trial involves doing work that is common in the workplace and considering career and occupational options, or trying to return to work if you have been away from work for a long time for one reason or another. A work trial is not an employment relationship. It usually lasts between 1 and 6 months, working 4 to 8 hours a day. Participants are not paid, but they are entitled to a benefit (usually unemployment benefit) for the duration of the work trial, which they would otherwise receive depending on their situation. In many cases, the benefit is increased for the duration of the work trial when the trial has been agreed in a personal plan. The work experience placement may be offered by an entrepreneur, an association or other organisation. You can announce the placement on the Job Navigator and/or even on your company’s website, social media channels, to municipal employment/business people, in the office/shop window, by telling a friend. You are welcome to inform Mervi Seppänen about work experience vacancies in the Siilinjärvi area, mervi.seppanen(at)siilinjarvi.fi. The main thing would be to offer the opportunity to the work trialist, if you can offer a trial place and guide and support the trialist. Would you be able to offer a work experience opportunity to a trainee?
