School youth work project
The project for the development of school youth work in Siilinjärvi Youth Services ended in June 2024 and was funded by the Regional State Administrative Agency of Eastern Finland.
The school youth worker worked in schools in Ahmo, Suininlahti and Siilinlahti. The main focus of the work has been with young people in grades 7-9. The school youth worker is a reliable and present adult in the schools. The aim has been to meet young people at a low threshold during the school day and to support and encourage them. The aim has been to strengthen school enjoyment, for example by organising half-time activities, involving young people and preventing bullying.
The aim has been to foster a sense of community and inclusion in schools. The school youth worker has organised group sessions for class groups in schools, been involved in small group facilitation, organised substance abuse education and life management classes, and created events in cooperation with youth services and school staff. The activities have been developed together according to the needs of young people and those working with them.
