Information about Siilinjärvi

The municipality of Siilinjärvi was established in 1925, with the main town located in the village of Kirkon and another in Vuorela, near the Kuopio border.

The municipality is located at a transport hub:

* highway No 5 runs through the municipality
* Rissala airport is located on the side of the municipality, about 11 km from the centre
* the nearest railway station is just outside the centre
* the nearest inland port is in the village of Kuuslahti (approx. 7 km)
* the nearest seaport is in Oulu (approx. 270 km)
* the nearest large city, Kuopio, is located about 20 km further south

Siilinjärvi offers good services to its residents, including schools and cultural and sports activities.

In addition, Siilinjärvi offers a wide range of recreational opportunities and a natural environment where you can enjoy outdoor activities such as fishing and hiking. There is also the Siilinjärvi Golf Course and the Kasurila Ski Centre, which offer activities in both summer and winter.
