School accidents
The municipality of Siilinjärvi has insured all pupils in the primary school with voluntary accident insurance.

Valid from
The school insurance is valid during school hours, during school trips and camps at home country and abroad according to the work plan, on the direct route from home to school and from school to home, and in the afternoon activities. Accidental injuries suffered by a pupil in work experience are covered by the municipality’s statutory accident insurance, in the same way as accidents at work. The insurance only covers accidents, not illnesses.
In the event of an accident
Health care in the event of an accident is provided primarily through public health services.
Treatment route: health nurse / health centre / Kys.
At the health centre/hospital, when registering, you must always tell that it is a school accident.
Reporting an accident and claiming compensation
The teacher in whose class/at recess the accident occurred will guide the student for treatment and report the accident to the principal/office.
The steps to be taken when processing an accident notification form:
- The school fills in the accident report directly to the insurance company via the internet.
- The guardian submits any self-payment invoices with attachments either to the school/school office, from where they are sent on to the insurance company.
- The insurance company will pay the compensation into the guardian’s account.

The insurance covers the costs of treatment of an accidental injury, medical fees, examinations and medicines prescribed by a doctor, and travel expenses for treatment. Physical treatment and travel expenses are covered for rehabilitation following an accidental operation or cast or similar treatment ordered by a doctor, up to a maximum of ten sessions. Glasses broken in an accident are reimbursed if the accident required medical treatment. Other material damage (clothing, bicycle, etc.) is not covered. The insurance covers medical expenses up to a maximum of EUR 10 000.
Traffic accident
If a pupil has a road accident on the way to school, medical expenses will be covered by motor vehicle´s traffic insurance.
