Environmental protection
Environmental protection aims to achieve good environmental status and ecologically sustainable development. Environmental protection supports the municipality’s goals of zero emissions, zero waste and globally sustainable consumption. The means include legislation, participation in sustainable development projects and networks, and raising environmental awareness among local residents.
The general principles guiding environmental protection are the principles of prevention and minimisation of harm, precaution and care, best available techniques, best environmental practice and the polluter pays principle.
The tasks of the municipality’s environmental protection authority in Siilinjärvi municipality are performed by the Authority Board. Environmental protection matters are presented to the Board by the Head of Environmental Protection.
