End-of-life vehicles

The last holder of the vehicle must deliver the vehicle to be scrapped to an official collection point authorised by Suomen Autokierrätys Oy. Many recipients will also collect cars free of charge. The holder receives a certificate of scrapping when the car is handed over.
The municipality is responsible for the removal of end-of-life vehicles from the environment within the municipality if the holder of the end-of-life vehicle fails to comply with his obligation under the Waste Act to deliver the vehicle to an appropriate reception facility.
The procedure is as prescribed by the Vehicle Transfer Act. The owner or holder of the vehicle is liable to pay the municipality for the costs incurred in arranging, transferring, storing and managing the vehicle.
