Soil and bedrock

Information on the bedrock in the Siilinjärvi area has been compiled in the publication ” Bedrock in the Siilinjärvi and Kuopio map areas ” (available only in Finnish) by the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK). GTK’s map service contains information on, among other things, the geological chamber and bedrock. The bedrock of Siilinjärvi consists of Archean (over 2 500 million years old) and Palaeoproterozoic (2 400-1 870 million years old). The most common soil type in Siilinjärvi is moraine and the bedrock is very fine-grained. Industrial utilitizes the rocks as crushed rock and for other industrial purposes. The industrial activities requires permits.
