Recreational areas
The local authority plans, builds and maintains parks, woodlands, play areas and roadside green spaces.
Landscape design
Green space planning is based on a resident-centred approach. Green space plans are approved by the Technical Committee and are made available for public inspection both at the draft stage and when the final plan is approved (see the stages of the street plan). Keep track of the progress of matters and the decision-making process: public notices, agendas and minutes
Landscaping
The Parks Department carries out the majority of its landscaping projects in-house.
Landscaping
There are approximately 42 hectares of maintained parks and 39 playgrounds within the municipality of Siilinjärvi. In addition to these, the municipality maintains its own roadside green spaces and those adjacent to the Elinvoimakeskus in Kirkonkylä.
The landowner’s liability
It is the duty of the landowner and the person in possession of the land to keep the green strip and ditch extending up to a maximum of 3 metres from the boundary of the plot clean and tidy. Please note that the landowner or occupier is responsible for managing invasive species on their own plot.
Felling trees on the property
A landscape works permit from the building control authority is required for felling trees within a local plan area. The same applies in a general plan area if restrictions on tree felling have been imposed there (Sections 53 and 54 of the Building Act).
Felling trees to enable the installation of solar power
Permission to fell individual trees is always considered on a case-by-case basis within the municipality’s land area.
