Enrolment in pre-primary education

According to the Basic Education Act, in the year before the start of compulsory education, a child must participate in a year of pre-primary education or other activities that achieve the objectives of pre-primary education. The responsibility for a child’s participation in pre-primary education lies with the child’s guardian.

For the period 2025-26, children born in 2019 are eligible for free pre-primary education. In addition, seven-year-olds whose school entry has been postponed by one year and five-year-olds who have been subject to a decision on extended compulsory education are entitled to pre-school education.
