Outreach youth work
Outreach youth work aims to reach young people under the age of 29 who are not currently studying or working or who are facing other challenges in their lives. We offer support, and participation is always voluntary. We work together to find solutions and support young people in accessing the right services. Outreach youth work in Siilinjärvi also operates in the Maaninka area of Kuopio.
Outreach youth work is relevant if:
- you do not know where you would like to study, or your studies have been interrupted
- you have difficulties finding a work trial or apprenticeship
- you are homeless or have housing problems
- you have health problems
- you are having financial difficulties
- an addiction is interfering with your life
- your life situation is unclear and you would like to talk about it with someone you trust
- you could benefit from external help to support your future planning
- you are lonely
Our service is confidential, personalized, and free of charge. Feel free to get in touch so we can plan the next steps together and connect you with any other necessary services.
In addition, we organize open group activities for people aged 18–28, called Iltasumpit. Iltasumpit are held at the Semppis Youth Centre on Wednesdays from 17:30 to 19:30. The activities are very informal. You can just hang out, chat, and play games. Small evening snacks are always provided. The most important thing is not what you do, but that you show up.

Educational institutions and the Defence Forces are obliged to report the details of young people who have interrupted their studies or military service to outreach youth work (Youth Act § 7c). Other authorities also have the right to report information to youth work if they consider it necessary. A youth worker will contact you based on these reports and offer you the possibility of cooperation. We operate in the Siilinjärvi area.
