Parliament for Children

The Children’s Parliament supports children’s right to participate and influence the development and decision-making in their living environment. The Children’s Parliament is a channel for primary school children to make their voices heard in the development of their living environment and in decision-making.

The Siilinjärvi Children’s Parliament is made up of members of school-specific student councils. The Children’s Parliament meets annually in the spring for a joint meeting, to which elected representatives and officials are also invited.

Youth Council

Siilinjärvi Youth Council, SiNuVa has been a channel for young people to have their say since 2009. The Youth Council aims to make young people’s voices heard in matters concerning young people in the municipality of Siilinjärvi and offers activities for young people in Siilinjärvi.

The representative of the Youth Council has the right to be present and speak at the meetings of the following municipal bodies for their public affairs. Representatives of the Youth Council:

• Welfare Section: Erika Suominen (Teresa Suominen substitute)
• Board of Education: Miko Merivalo (Erika Suominen substitute)
• Technical Committee: Jooa Karjula (Kaapo Kiljunen substitute)
• Board of Authorities: Jarkko Keinänen (Mikael Salo substitute)

Council for the elderly and disabled

The task of the Council for the Elderly and Disabled is to promote cooperation between the authorities, elderly and disabled persons and elderly and disabled organisations in Siilinjärvi municipality. The Council supports the participation and influence of the above in municipal decision-making. The Council for the Elderly and Disabled makes proposals and initiatives, monitors the implementation of measures, issues statements to the municipal authorities on issues concerning the elderly and disabled persons, and performs other tasks within its scope and as determined by the municipal government.

The representative of the Council has the right to be present and to speak at meetings of the following municipal bodies for their public business:

• Education Committee: Ari Ruotsalainen
• Welfare Section: Riitta Korhonen
• Technical Committee: Arja Jolkin

Forum of organisations and actors

The organisation and actor forum brings together a wide range of organisations and actors in the Siilinjärvi region.

The Forum of Organisations and Actors meets about 4 times a year and is informal. The Forum discusses issues of importance to associations, such as projects and events. The Forum often meets downstairs in the “Tapaamo” room of the main library.

The Forum is open to all actors in the 3rd sector. Come together to develop Siilinjärvi’s association field!
