The activities include the construction and maintenance of the municipality’s own streets. There are about 111 km of roads to be maintained, of which about 98 km are illuminated. During the summer, lights are switched off. There are about 64 km of light traffic routes. The maintenance and construction of the municipality’s own roads is the responsibility of the municipal engineering department.
Streets maintained by the municipality
The municipality of Siilinjärvi maintains the streets in the zoning areas of Kirkonkylä and Toivala-Vuorela.
Public roads
The maintenance of public roads (e.g. vt 5, vt 9, kt 75, kt 77 and the intersecting roads 599 Vuorela-Siilinjärvi “Vanha vitonen” and 576 Siilinjärvi-Varpaisjärvi and the regional roads 5653 Toivalantie, 16275 Kumpusentie, 16279 Kehvontie, 16330 Siltasalmentie and 16281 Koivusaarentie) is the responsibility of the North Savo ELY Centre. The road user’s hotline 0200 2100 (24h/day) can be contacted to report road maintenance on the roads under the responsibility of the ELY Centre. Reports on road conditions or road maintenance can be made electronically at palautevayla.fi.

Private roads
The maintenance of private roads is the responsibility of the private road maintenance company.
Traffic signs and signals on private roads must be approved by the municipality (Section 71(2) of the Road Traffic Act: permission to place traffic signs and signals on private roads).
