Freezing temperatures reduce air quality

The dry, frosty weather of recent days has had a negative impact on air quality. Concentrations are particularly high along busy roads and in some places heating emissions can also have a negative impact on air quality. At the same time, high electricity prices are increasing the use of wood. At the Siilinjärvi kirkonkylä monitoring station, air quality has remained at a satisfactory to fair level, but in Kuopio, for example, the daily limit value for respirable particulate matter (PM10) was exceeded at several stations over the weekend. Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations have also exceeded the WHO guideline values. Dry frosts are forecast to continue.

The real-time air quality measurement results of Siilinjärvi are available on the website https://aqverkkokuopio.net and on the national air quality website http://ilmatieteenlaitos.fi/ilmanlaatu. The measurement results are also available in the Siilinjärvi app (available for download from Google Play Store and Appstore).
