Older People’s Week will be held from 5 to 11 October 2026
Senior Citizens’ Week will be held from 5 to 11 October 2026, with the theme ‘Everyday Encounters’. Organised by the Siilinjärvi Council for the Elderly and People with Disabilities, the week once again features a varied programme of events. There are events on the programme for almost every day. Mark the events that interest you in your diary and invite your friends along.
Mon 5 Oct at 12 noon: Opening concert for Senior Citizens’ Week at Siilinjärvi Church, featuring the Siilinjärvi Adult Education Centre choirs ‘Vielä Raikaa’ (conducted by Jenni Koljonen) and Lauluveikot, as well as the Sopusoinnut choir from Kuopio (conducted by Venla Lyytikäinen)
Tue 6 Oct: Helmi Hall, Haarahongantie 4, Siilinjärvi
10.00–11.00 ‘Age, Joy and the Wholeness of Life’ – lecture by KT Leevi Launonen
11.00–12.00 Everyday meal (€7)
12.00–13.00 Lecture: Staying safe at home – how can we prevent falls and fires in the homes of older people?
Wednesday 7 October
12.00–15.00 Fontanella exercise day for older people
2.00–4.00 pm Why is everything so difficult? Staying safe online – remote lecture. Non-fiction writer Petteri Järvinen, Siilinjärvi Adult Education Centre, Coti Parish, Viertotie 6.
Thursday 8 October at 6.00 pm: ‘Autumn Dreams’ concert in the canteen at Siilinlahti School (Koulutie 3). Performers include the Vielä Raikaa choir from the adult education centre (conducted by Jenni Koljonen) and Pelismannit (conducted by Milja Tikkanen)
Friday 9 October, 9.30 am–1 pm: Exercise Day for Older Adults. Throughout the day, we’ll be exercising together, trying out the new Sisu Grip poles and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere at Vuoku House and its surroundings (Simpan uimaranta 1). The VuoKu café will be open throughout the event.
Sun 11 Oct: Church Festival
Siilinjärvi Church at 10.00, coffee and a short musical interlude in the Helmisali hall
Vuorela Church at 1.00 pm, coffee and a short musical interlude
