Early childhood education and care

A child is entitled to early childhood education from the beginning of the calendar month in which they turn nine months old. The municipality is not required to provide early childhood education for the period during which parental allowance is paid for the child’s care.

However, early childhood education must be provided for the period during which parental allowance is paid partially due to part-time work. The right to the same early childhood education place remains even if the child is absent from early childhood education during the period when parental allowance is paid, provided the absence does not exceed 13 consecutive weeks.

You can apply for an early childhood education place throughout the year, but no later than four months before the need for daycare begins. If early childhood education is needed due to the guardian’s employment, training, or studies and the timing of the need for care is not foreseeable, the application must be submitted at least two weeks before the child needs the place.

The acceptance of the granted early childhood education place must be notified within a week of receiving the decision.

The start of early childhood education can be postponed by up to one month from the granted start date.

Applications for early childhood education places are submitted electronically, as is the registration for preschool (recommendation: use a computer to complete the application).

You can use the links below to apply for an early childhood education place and to register in preschool. Please note that if your child needs early childhood education outside of preschool hours (weekdays 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM), in addition to registering in preschool, you must apply for supplementary early childhood education. Supplementary early childhood education is provided in the same child group and facilities as preschool.

In Siilinjärvi, early childhood education is provided not only by municipal daycare centers but also by private daycare centers and both municipal and private family daycare providers. Family daycare is early childhood education organized by an early childhood education professional in their own home, which includes similar activities to those provided in daycare centers. You can apply for a place for municipal family daycare providers using the same application as for daycare centers. Our service advisor can provide more information about family daycare if needed.

Families can also either apply themselves or be directed to private early childhood education in daycare centers or family daycare providers approved by the municipality as service voucher providers.

When a private service provider has granted an early childhood education place and you have made a service agreement with them, please fill out the electronic service voucher application to the municipality using the link below.
